PhD PROJECT
Since december 2020, I am a PhD student in the teams INRIA MIMESIS and INSERM U1114 (“Neuropsychologie cognitive et physiopathologie de la schizophrénie”). My research project merges electrophysiology and automatic under the title “Closed-loop Transcranial Electric Stimulation (TES) of Neural Networks in a Rodent Model of Psychotic Transition”.
Could we prevent psychotic disorder by stimulating the brain ? With my thesis directors, Didier Pinault (INSERM) and Axell Hutt (INRIA), we want to identify optimal TES parameters to render it efficient as a preventive treatment in schizophrenia disorder. We also would like to explore what happens in the brain when TES is applied, and what could be the similarities with antipsychotic drug action (e.g. clozapine).
For this purpose, electrophysiological experiments within the rodent model for psychotic transition are performed. Parallelly, parameter predictions are obtained from a mathematical model of the cortico-thalamic network. Then, we would like to apply the identified parameters in a closed-loop feedback system. It will allow, when necessary, a fine and automatic application of the stimulation.
